A fresh take on the cookie-matching challenge
The Super Famicom version of Yoshi’s Cookie, released in 1993, differs from its NES and Game Boy counterparts by featuring an exclusive single-player story mode. Developed by Bullet-Proof Software, this version expands on the original puzzle gameplay with added cutscenes and a more structured progression system.
Exclusive content and gameplay tweaks
Unlike the Western SNES release, this version introduces a unique story mode where Mario and Yoshi work in a cookie factory, clearing puzzles to progress. The game also features animated intermissions and a slightly altered visual presentation, making it stand out from other versions. Despite these differences, the core gameplay remains the same—players rotate and align cookies to complete full rows or columns before time runs out.
A Japan-only gem
The game’s additional content makes it an interesting piece of Mario history. The game later reappeared in Nintendo Puzzle Collection for the GameCube, though this remained a Japan-only title.
