A grand slam of chaotic fun

Released in 2004 for the GameCube, Mario Power Tennis took the core gameplay of its N64 predecessor and cranked up the excitement. With vibrant courts, wacky power shots, and an all-star roster, it delivered the kind of over-the-top fun only Mario sports games can. Whether playing singles or doubles, the mix of accessible mechanics and deeper strategy made it enjoyable for casual players and competitive fans alike.

Power shots and gimmick courts add variety

The biggest addition was the introduction of Power Shots—special moves unique to each character. Mario smashed fireball-powered shots, while Wario pulled out a magnet to cheat his way to victory. Courts also featured wild gimmicks, from Luigi’s Mansion’s ghostly interference to DK Jungle’s banana-peppered hazards. For those wanting a purer experience, classic courts without gimmicks were available too.

A multiplayer favourite with lasting appeal

With a solid single-player tournament mode, fun minigames, and a fantastic multiplayer component, Mario Power Tennis became a staple of GameCube libraries. Later re-released on the Wii with motion controls, it remains one of the most beloved Mario sports titles, proving that tennis can be just as entertaining as a high-speed kart race.
