Classic handheld nostalgia with a modern twist
Released in 1997 for the Game Boy and later enhanced for the Game Boy Color, Game & Watch Gallery 2 brought a collection of classic Game & Watch titles to a new generation. It featured five main games—Parachute, Helmet, Chef, Vermin, and Donkey Kong—each playable in both their original LCD-style format and a modernised version with Mario characters and updated mechanics.
Old-school simplicity meets new-school charm
The original versions stayed true to their Game & Watch roots, offering simple but addictive gameplay that tested reflexes and timing. The modern versions, however, introduced colourful sprites, smoother animations, and new gameplay elements. For example, in the updated Chef, Princess Peach juggled food while Yoshi tried to eat it, adding an extra layer of strategy.
A must-have for retro fans
The game rewarded skilled players with unlockable bonus titles, including hidden Game & Watch gems. With its mix of nostalgia and fresh appeal, Game & Watch Gallery 2 was a fantastic way to experience Nintendo’s handheld history while enjoying a new spin on the classics.
