A different kind of Mario spin-off
Released for the Super Famicom and Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, Yoshi’s Cookie is a tile-matching puzzle game developed by Bullet-Proof Software. Unlike traditional Mario platformers, this game focuses on fast-paced puzzle mechanics, where players match rows and columns of cookies to clear the board.
Simple but addictive gameplay
Players rotate and align cookies of different shapes, aiming to complete full rows or columns before the timer runs out. Yoshi himself plays a key role, with special Yoshi cookies acting as wildcards to help clear the board. The game offers both a single-player mode and a competitive two-player mode, adding variety to the experience.
A unique legacy
While Yoshi’s Cookie wasn’t as widely remembered as other Mario puzzle spin-offs, it remains a charming and challenging entry in the franchise. It was later re-released on the Game Boy Advance as part of Nintendo Puzzle Collection in Japan, keeping its legacy alive for dedicated puzzle fans.
