A new era of Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U marked the arrival of the series’ fourth instalment, pushing the beloved brawler into the next generation of consoles. The series is renowned for its non-traditional fighting style where players use different attacks to weaken their opponents and knock them out of an arena.

The game is playable on the Wii U with a variety of controller options, including the Wii U GamePad, the Wii U Pro Controller, a Wii Remote, the GameCube controller via an adapter, and even a Nintendo 3DS that is running the 3DS version or a special controller software downloadable from the eShop.

This game brought together a huge roster of characters from Nintendo’s iconic franchises, as well as a few third-party guest fighters. With 58 playable characters, including newcomers like Mega Man, Little Mac, and the villager from Animal Crossing, the game provided fans with a fresh yet familiar experience. The fast-paced combat and creative stages made every fight exciting, whether playing solo or with friends.

A focus on multiplayer and customization

One of the standout features of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was its extensive multiplayer options. The game allowed up to eight players to battle it out on a single screen, creating chaotic and fun matches that had players coming back for more. In addition to the usual modes, there were several new modes, including Smash Tour and the ability to customise fighters’ moves and stats. This brought a layer of strategy and personalisation that was well received by the competitive community.

Other new features include support for Nintendo’s line of Amiibo (being one of the first games to do so), using custom Miis as playable fighters, post-release downloadable content including additional fighters and stages, and customizable special moves.

The definitive Smash experience

Visually, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was a stunning upgrade compared to previous entries in the series. The character models were highly detailed, the stages were vibrant and dynamic, and the action was smooth. The inclusion of GameCube controller support made it easier for long-time players to jump in, while the unique stages, such as Final Destination and Battlefield, were complemented by a huge variety of music tracks, all tailored to enhance the experience. All of this combined to make Super Smash Bros. for Wii U a must-have title for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
