A charming puzzle platformer
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars for the Wii U is a delightful entry in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, released in 2015. Physical formats of this game were released exclusively in Japan. Copies were also distributed throughout Europe however these contained no physical media, but instead contained a download code for the Nintendo eShop. In the US, the game was released as a digital download only, on 4 March 2015.
This puzzle-platformer features Mario and his team of Mini Mario toys, who must navigate through various challenging levels to save the day. Players control the Minis as they solve puzzles and use their abilities to overcome obstacles in the path to victory. The game offers a blend of precision-based platforming with logical puzzle-solving, making it an engaging experience for both casual and more dedicated players.
Unique mechanics and levels
One of the standout features of Tipping Stars is its use of “tipping” mechanics. Players are able to tilt platforms to guide the Minis to their goal, adding an extra layer of strategy to the puzzles. The levels vary from simple challenges to complex obstacles, requiring players to think ahead and use their resources wisely. In addition to the core gameplay, the title also introduces the ability to share user-created levels, making for an ever-expanding set of puzzles. This community-driven aspect helps keep the game fresh, as players can download new puzzles from around the world.
Collectibles and replayability
The game encourages replayability by rewarding players with stars, which can be used to unlock additional content and new levels. The level design is fun and creative, with each new area bringing new challenges and mechanics to master. The inclusion of a download code allows for easy access to digital content, making it even easier for players to enjoy. While the game is relatively short, its replay value comes from the variety of levels, the satisfaction of completing each one, and the ongoing addition of new player-made content.
